Do you want to get your name off telemarketing lists or stop getting all those credit card offers?

Do you get completely annoyed when telemarkerters call and try to put the pressure on you or use guilt as a tactic to get you to buy or donate something, or what about all those credit card offers that come in the mail offering a really cheap rate on balance transfers but if you purchase anything new on the card they charge you an outrageously high interest rate.

There are some people that are "too nice" to say no or maybe don't understand completely that they have the right to say no or hang up, some of the slick telemarketers use guilt as a tactic and prey on those people, so a lot of times this poor person on the phone gets suckered into buying something when they can't afford it. People also get suckered into those credit card offers that are offering a really cheap rate on balance transfers but in small print the interest for new charges is outrageous or the cheap rate on the balance transfer is only for a temporary amount of time and then it goes way up, or maybe you are just trying to get your finances under control and stop charging so you have cut up your credit cards but then an offer shows up in the mail and tempts you to open a new account.
Here's how you can avoid some of these financial pitfalls:

  • Opt out of unsolicited credit card offers, 1-888-5 OPT OUT or 1-888-567-8688
  • Sign up for the Do Not Call Registry 1-888-382-1222 or www.donotcall.gov (keep in mind you will need to do this yearly to stay on the list.)
  • Remove your name from mailing, telemarketing and email lists, contact the Direct Marketing Association www.dmaconsumers.org or 212-768-7277
